Grow a MO. Raising awareness on Men’s Health issues in November.

Health

November has rolled in, and with it comes something more than just cooler weather. It’s Movember, the month where men around the world grow mustaches to raise awareness about a cause that hits close to home: Men’s Health.

What Is Movember?
The Movember movement has grown from 30 mustaches to five million since the start of the Movember Foundation in 2003. The focused on addressing some of the biggest health issues men face – prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. A growing number of men – around 10.8 million globally – are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.

The Health Issues Movember Highlights
You’ve probably noticed men sporting fresh mustaches in November, and that’s the Movember way of getting people talking!

Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men. In fact, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with it in their lifetime. Regular screening is vital, and early detection can make all the difference.

Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer tends to affect younger men, but the good news is it has a high survival rate when caught early. Movember encourages men to check themselves regularly and seek medical advice if something feels off.

Mental Health & Suicide Prevention
The mental health crisis is real, with men being less likely to seek help. Men account for 3 out of 4 suicides, and Movember is on a mission to reduce this statistic by encouraging open conversations about mental health.

How You Can Get Involved
Growing a mustache in November is a fun and easy way to support the cause, but it’s about more than just the ‘stache! Here are a few ways you can participate:

Grow a Mo: Grow a mustache and use it as a conversation starter. Tell people why you’re doing it, and ask them to support the cause by donating or getting involved.

Move for Movember: Commit to walking or running 60 miles during the month, representing the 60 men lost to suicide every hour around the world.

Host a Mo-ment: Gather friends, family, or colleagues and host an event to raise funds and awareness for men’s health.

What is “No-Shave November”
No-Shave November is a month-Iong journey during which participants forgo shaving and grooming in order to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness. Learn more about how you can get involved and start getting hairy!

The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. Donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.

The rules of No-Shave November are simple: put down your razor for 30 days and donate your monthly hair-maintenance expenses to the cause. Strict dress-code at work? Don’t worry about it! We encourage participation of any kind; grooming and trimming are perfectly acceptable.

You can participate in No-Shave November cancer awareness by

So, this November, whether you’re growing a mustache, a full beard, other body hair, or simply spreading the word, remember that each effort counts. Let’s work together to raise awareness, support men’s health, and make a difference!

Until next time – stay healthy and don’t forget to check in on the men in your life!
